About Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airline based at Singapore Changi Airport is the flag carrier of Singapore. Peter Seah Lim Huat and Goh Choon Phong are Chairman and CEO respectively. The foundation of the company goes back to 1947 when three companies Ocean Steamship, Imperial Airways and Straits Steamship came together to establish Malayan Airways Limited. MAL’s first flights was from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur on April 2, 1947. The paths were opened forever after this and the carrier soon started its flights to Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Penang. With the technical assistance of Qantas Empire Airways and BOAC, the carrier consistently made expansion from its launch to 1950s. Douglas DC-4 Skymaster, Bristol Britannia, Vickers Viscount, Fokker F27, Lockheed 1049 Super Constellation and de Havilland Comet 4 made the fleets for the first two decades.

The airline currently flies to 62 destinations across 32 countries. With its subsidiary SilkAir, the flights are more than any other Southeast Asian airline. The company enjoys one of the best Kangaroo run with over 11% flights to and from Australia. India and Australia with six each make the highest number of destinations. SIA announced its plans on Oct 14, 2015 to restart the world’s longest 19-hour non-stop flight between Singapore and Newark, New Jersey after a hiatus of two years. However, the passengers would have to wait until 2018 as the needed carrier, Airbus A350 is awaited and would be delivered in 2018.
