Singapore Airlines (SIA) established on May 1, 1947 is the flag carrier of Republic of Singapore owned by government of the republic through Temasek Holdings. With the gradual growth in the 1950s, the first notable expansion was made in 1957. After the foundation of Federation of Malaysia by Singapore, Sarawak, Malaya and Sabah in 1963, the original name, Malayan Airways was changed to Malaysian Airways. However, after the collapse of federation in 1966 the service was rebranded as Malaysia Singapore Airlines (MSA). In the very next year fleet was expanded with the acquisition of Boeing 707s and then Boeing 737s in the year after. Then there is a history of incorporation and growth in 1970s and after cessation of MSA in 1972. The partition resulted in the establishment of two separate airlines i.e. Malaysian Airlines System and Singapore Airlines. The company today is ranked as the second-largest airline in the world in terms of market capitalization with a worth of USD 14 billion. It also is a member of Star Alliance and share code agreements with 38 airlines including Adria Airways, LOT Polish Airlines, EVA Air, Air India, Air China, Virgin Australia, SilkAir, SriLankan Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Air Mauritius, Malaysia Airlines, United Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and others.
